State's Attorney, Union Co. sheriff remind parents to plan Trick-or-Treat routes

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds and Union County Sheriff David Livesay are reminding the public to review the Illinois Sex Offender Registry when planning Halloween Trick-or-Treat routes.

Under Illinois law, any sex offender on parole or probation may not participate in any Halloween activity involving children. This would include leaving a porch light on, answering the door or passing out candy during trick or treat hours.

According to Edmonds, there are currently 43 registered sex offenders living in Union County and parents can look at the Illinois Sex Offender Register by clicking here.

The Union County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a sex offender compliance check on Halloween.
