Sony (NYSE: SNE) to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide

Sony (NYSE: SNE) to cut 10,000 jobs worldwideChicago, IL 4/9/12 (StreetBeat) -- Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE) will cut about 10,000 jobs worldwide over the next year as it tries to return to profit, Japanese news reports said Monday.

The Nikkei business daily and other media said Sony's decision to slash 6 percent of its work force comes as it struggles with weak TV sales and swelling losses.

Sony spokeswoman Yoko Yasukouchi wouldn't confirm the reports.
New CEO Kazuo Hirai is holding a press conference Thursday.

Sony has announced restructuring plans by selling its chemical unit. Sony is also merging its LCD panel operation with Toshiba and Hitachi. Yasukouchi said those changes could affect up to 5,000 employees who are subject to transfers.

Sony earlier this year reported a 159 billion yen ($2.1 billion) loss for the October-December quarter and more than doubled its projected loss for the full fiscal year through March 2013.

Online Gaming for Dates

Date: 09 Apr 2012?|?0 Comment?|?

Dating is hard work. ?You have to find the time to look presentable, buy your date gifts or things, make sure that you are constantly making that person feel special and all sorts of little nonsense like that. ?Yet, we still date. ?It is engrained in us to find a suitable mate and court him or her so that we might one day get married or have kids or follow some cultural norm.

One of the hardest parts of dating though has got to be finding someone to date. ?Sure you can have your friends hook you up on blind dates, but how well do those usually go? ?Then there are tons and tons of online dating sites that you can join. ?They range from general sites where you answer questions to find compatible partners, to those more specific like farmersonly.com. ?Yes, that is a legitimate dating site exclusively for farmers, ranchers, and country folk?

About one in four couples today meet through an online dating site of some kind. ?Seems pretty crazy, right? ?But what about online gaming? ?Surely you have heard tales of men and women meeting in these virtual gaming worlds and falling in love and meeting in person and creating little gaming babies, right? ?Okay maybe that is not quite how the story goes, but people are meeting through online gaming.

Check out the statistics for couples and online gaming in the infographic below.

Car bomb near Nigeria churches kills 38

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) ? A suicide car bomber detonated his explosives Sunday morning on a busy road after apparently turning away from attacking Nigerian churches holding Easter services, killing at least 38 people in a massive blast that rattled a city long at the center of religious, ethnic and political violence in the nation.

The blast struck Kaduna, the capital of Kaduna state, leaving charred motorcycles and debris strewn across a major road in the city where many gather to eat at informal restaurants and buy black market gasoline. Nearby hotels and homes had their windows blown out and roofs torn away by the force of the powerful explosion, which engulfed a group of motorcycle taximen.

The explosion damaged the nearby All Nations Christian Assembly Church and the ECWA Good News Church as churchgoers worshipped at an Easter service, the possible target of the bomber. Witnesses said it appeared the explosive-laden car attempted to go into the compound of the churches before it detonated, but was blocked by barriers in the street and was turned away by a security guard as police approached.

"We were in the holy communion service and I was exhorting my people and all of a sudden, we heard a loud noise that shattered all our windows and doors, destroyed our fans and some of our equipment in the church," Pastor Joshua Raji said.

While no one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, suspicion immediately fell on a radical Islamist sect blamed for hundreds of killings in the oil-rich nation this year alone. And some fear the attack could further inflame tensions around Kaduna, a region on the dividing line between Nigeria's largely Christian south and Muslim north.

At least 38 people were killed in the blast, said Abubakar Zakari Adamu, a spokesman for the Kaduna state Emergency Management Agency. Others suffered serious injuries and were receiving treatment at local hospitals, Adamu said.

A witness, Augustine Vincent, said he was riding a motorcycle just behind the car when it exploded.

"God saw our heart and saved us," he said.

Churches have been increasingly targeted by violence on holy days in Nigeria, a nation of more than 160 million people of Christians and Muslims. A Christmas Day suicide bombing of a Catholic church in Madalla near Nigeria's capital killed at least 44 people.

Police and soldiers quickly cordoned off the blast site, though citizens looked on at the flames and damage. Authorities said they had no immediately suspects in the attack, though a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram has claimed similar attacks in the past.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language of Nigeria's north, is waging an increasingly bloody fight with security agencies and the public. More than 380 people have been killed in violence blamed on the sect this year alone, according to an Associated Press count.

The sect, employing suicide bombers and assault-rifle shootouts, has attacked both Christians and Muslims, as well as the United Nations' headquarters in Nigeria.

The sect has rejected efforts to begin indirect peace talks with Nigeria's government. Its demands include the introduction of strict Shariah law across the country, even in Christian areas, and the release of all imprisoned followers.

The near-daily attacks by the sect ? and Nigeria's weak central government's inability to thwart them despite public promises ? has sparked anger and fear about the group's reach. The United Kingdom and the United States had warned its citizens living in the country that violence was likely over the Easter holiday. Nigeria's government dismissed the warning, with local newspapers quoting presidential spokesman Reuben Abati saying: "Easter will be peaceful for all."

Abati did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday. In his Easter speech at the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI mentioned the ongoing violence in Nigeria. Catholic churches have been targeted in previous attacks.

"To Nigeria, which in recent times has experienced savage terrorist attacks, may the joy of Easter grant the strength needed to take up anew the building of a society which is peaceful and respectful of the religious freedom of its citizens," he said.

Britain's Africa Minister Henry Bellingham condemned the attack, calling it a "horrific act."

Meanwhile, authorities said an explosion struck the city of Jos in neighboring Plateau state on Sunday night, another city where religious and ethnic violence has killed hundreds in past years. Yushau Shuaib, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, said there were some injuries in the blast, but had no other details. State police commissioner Emmanuel Dipo Ayeni said the cause of blast was still being investigated.

Kaduna, on Nigeria's dividing line between its largely Christian south and Muslim north, was at the heart of postelection violence in April 2011. Mobs armed with machetes and poison-tipped arrows took over streets of Kaduna and the state's rural countryside after election officials declared President Goodluck Jonathan the winner. Followers of his main opponent, former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim, quickly alleged the vote had been rigged, though observers largely declared the vote fair.

Across the nation, at least 800 people died in that rioting, Human Rights Watch said. In the time since, heavily armed soldiers remain on guard on roadways throughout Kaduna. In December, an explosion at an auto parts market in Kaduna killed at least seven people. Though authorities said it came from a leaking gas cylinder, the Nigerian Red Cross later said in an internal report the blast came from a bomb.

In February, bombs exploded at two major military bases near the city, injuring an unknown number of people.

Quilt, Knit, Run, Sew: It's a Zig Zag Baby Quilt

Today, two of my grand daughters, Grace and Caitlin are coming with me to a family baby shower.? My sister in law's daughter is becoming a grandmother for the second time and everyone is excited about the imminent arrival of this little babe.?

Since we don't know if baby is a boy or a girl, we kept our home made gifts neutral.?? Lots of color.? I loved making this zig zag quilt with straight line quilting.???It's sort of modern.? ?All the fabric came from a 8-pack of fat quarters that I bought while south last month.? It was fun to make all the matching little things.??

The polka dot "Take-Along-Bag" is adorned with? applique "Baby" and will be useful for anything baby.?? I made a little wristlet out of left over fabric and it has?a little surprise inside.? It could be used to carry soothers, or just a little snack.??All the?zigs on the quilt are made with various?fabrics from the 8-pack.? The scrappy neutrals were extra.?

Of course I mentioned the other day, that I?have a little mystery gift too.?? It's all wrapped and? Caitlin and Grace will give it to the new mom.? They will help guide her as to what it's used for.? They'll have fun "being in the know".

Pauly D Confesses He's 'Addicted To The Cameras'

DJ talks to MTV's Sway Calloway in YRB magazine about the upsides of being in the spotlight.
By John Mitchell

Pauly D is blazing his own trail independent of "The Jersey Shore." The reality TV star is busily working the DJ circuit and hopes to break out on his own as a recording artist with his in-the-works debut album for 50 Cent's G-Note Records. But he tells YRB magazine that, for now, he's completely comfortable having cameras document his attempts to change the course of his career on his new show "The Pauly D Project."

"I'm addicted to the cameras now. It's almost as if I expect them to be outside now," Pauly D tells MTV's own Sway Calloway in the magazine's latest issue. "There are times you wish you had a certain amount of anonymity, but in the end, the good outweighs the bad. Believe me when I say that."

The "good" he refers to includes the fame "Jersey Shore" has brought him and the way he's been able to parlay it into a successful career beyond the show. His fame, mixed with his skills as a DJ, helped him land an opening spot on Britney Spears' successful "Femme Fatale" arena tour, which had the DJ spinning for audiences numbering in the thousands each night.

Spears is set to appear on the "Pauly D Project" and Pauly D tells Sway he has approached the pop star about appearing on his album. "Of course I did," he says. "She liked the idea of that, and we're actually in talks about that now, so hopefully it works out."

Pauly knows some will always view his DJ career as little more than a vanity side project, but says the haters actually motivate him to work harder to prove himself.

"There have been plenty of DJs that didn't take me serious because of the 'Jersey Shore' show, but once they came out to one of my sets, their opinions changed," he tells YRB. "I have had some of the haters come up to me after my set and tell me, 'Dude you are really legit, you killed that set.' I love when I can change people's perceptions of me."

Right now he's focusing on popular hits to get his point across. Asked by Sway about his go-to songs when he's spinning, he name-checked some Top 40 staples. "Right now anything by LMFAO is a banger. Rihanna is super hot, Pitbull is tearing it up, and without a doubt, Chris Brown is doing the damn thing right now."

In fact, one of Pauly's first mainstream remixes was of Brown's "Turn Up the Music." He used the opportunity to prove his skills as a producer. "I had just signed the record deal, and I needed to show people that I can produce," Pauly says. "I took a banging song that I already knew was going to be a hit, and I gave it more kick for in the club. I produced a beat for it to get the fists pumping, and it's a smash now."

He sees his style as a combination of two world-famous DJs, David Guetta and DJ Khaled. "I gotta say I'm a mixture of the two. I love dance music just as much as I'm all about hip-hop," he says. "They actually call me 'the Bridge' because I bridge the gap between house and hip-hop. I make the house music person, who may not normally vibe to hip-hop, appreciate the music and vice versa."

Whether he'll be able to bridge the gap between his current reality celebrity and a future as a mainstream DJ, producer and singer remains to be seen, but he's clearly off to a good start.

Golf As A Sport For The Family

Many people don?t enjoy playing golf because it takes up so much time. But maybe it?s time that you stopped whining about your spouse spending so much time golfing and got the whole family into the sport. Golf is a great sport for children, developing their gross and fine motor skills as well as their hand-eye co-ordination, and they will love the walk or ride around the course too.

If your family isn?t too much into golf, it?s best to take lessons before anything else. Golf Pros can offer their services, and most golf courses offer classes for golfers of any level. Lessons will help you learn the basic skills you need to get around a golf course. You can turn golf practice into a great family activity, and the moment you notice that you?re all making some progress, you can schedule an actual round of golf.

But maybe 9 holes would be a better idea, especially if you have smaller children, who may get tired out by walking around 18 holes. Remember the course etiquette if you are holding up play, let the players behind you through. This is especially important, since children can be hyperactive, and a golf course is not a place to go ranting and raving ? make sure your kids learn and follow the rules as well. Safety precautions are important too, particularly with children who tend to forget where to stand and how to keep out of the way of swinging golf clubs.

Golf is a great sport for children to learn anger management and self-control. Just as long as they don?t follow the example of adult golfers who act like barbarians when their game is going bad, your children should have no problem learning these two things.

Once your family is comfortable on the golf course, you should consider a golfing vacation. Golf resorts offer a lot of attractive packages which have all related fees included in the package cost. If you have young children, you can have them take lessons and play games in any one of several child-friendly resorts. These offer the adults an opportunity to play a round on their own too.

At first glance, golf may not look very taxing, but walking around all eighteen holes can make you think differently. There isn?t a sport like golf that can serve as a fun form of recreation, a good way to exercise and stay fit, and also a commune with nature due to the lush scenery in many courses. No team-oriented sport can boast of the same.

90% In Darkness

Nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2012 Academy Awards, Agnieszka Holland's IN DARKNESS, is the poor man's SCHINDLER'S LIST, and I mean that as a high compliment. Now don't get me wrong. I think Spielberg made a masterpiece with his Shoah epic, but Holland earns astute emotions and mines similar themes yet in a more intimate setting. Based on the true story of a Polish sewer worker who charged a small group of Jewish refugees a daily fee to squat in the filthy sewers beneath the city. The title of the film is apt, as so much of it takes place in utter darkness. At almost two and a half hours in length, we feel every minute of their intensely long hiding. Like Schindler, our main character, Leopold Socha, played wonderfully by Robert Wieckiewicz, is an opportunist rather than a Jewish sympathizer. In fact, his anti-semitism is much more overt than Schindler's. On the other hand, his wife Wanda, an incredible Kinga Preis, is much more liberal at the outset, but wants to turn her back on the Jews when she fears for her life and that of her family. Their story is so searing, so vivid and unsentimental. It's no wonder I was more drawn to it than to the lives of the various Jews here. While all terrific actors who are given one horrifying scene after another to endure, their plight isn't as layered as that of Socha. There is one exception, and it's played by Benno Furmann, who is the love child of a Patrick Wilson/Josh Lucas bromance. Playing a man who leaves the sewers to escape INTO a concentration camp to save someone's life, he has leading man written all over her face. He easily commands the screen in all of his scenes. One of my all-time favorite critics, Roger Ebert, dismissed this film by saying that we've seen it all before. As much as I respect his opinion, I disagree. Usually films about this period in history tend to glorify the Jewish characters and they make every moment epic. IN DARKNESS does just the opposite. The Jews are just as flawed as any other characters here, as flawed as anybody would be when facing unreal, desperate circumstances. This is not a hyped up film. Something as simple as rainfall becomes an exciting action sequence, but it's played with an ingenious, dispassionate touch that Holland has always brought to her work.

Madonna Begs Britney Spears: 'Kiss Me Again'

Queen of Pop tweets her love to fans and fellow celebs after MDNA's chart-topping debut.
By John Mitchell

It seems Madonna has caught the Twitter bug. On March 26, the day MDNA was released, Madonna hit Twitter under the name @MadonnaMDNADay in what was initially billed as a one-time-only fan event to promote her new record. Well, the news that she topped the album charts for the eighth time was enough to bring her back for another round of fan Q&A. And this time, some famous faces got in on the action.

Katy Perry arrived early in the night and offered up a solid question — one that seemed appropriate for the always-evolving "Part of Me" superstar. "Which evolution of you in your career has been your favorite/ most fulfilling, besides the present?"

"Ray of Light. That was a good moment," Madonna responded. "I wanna see you in the front row somewhere this year. Okay?" She spent a good part of the evening propositioning her celebrity followers to join her on the road, offering up a very specific invitation to Britney Spears after she tweeted her love for Madonna's new album. "Please come on stage and kiss me again. I miss you!!" Madge tweeted. Spears' response? "Tempting..."

But Madonna would not take no for an answer. "Are you gonna make me work for this?" she asked.

She also shouted out to Lionel Richie, who debuted right behind her this week on the Billboard chart — their first meeting in the top ten since 1986. And things quickly got a little ... suggestive.

"There is no one I would rather be on top with. Congratulations!! I am so happy for you," Richie tweeted. Madonna's response was nothing if not characteristic: "OK, but as long as I'm on top."

"I wouldn't have it any other way!!" Richie Internet winked.

Elsewhere, we learned that Madonna is an excellent driver ("I've never gotten a ticket. Except for having tinted windows too dark"), she was Minnie Mouse for Halloween last year, she seems to want Quentin Tarantino to direct the video for "Gang Bang," she loved the weather in NYC yesterday and "calla lilies, gardenias [and] tuberose" are her favorite flowers (well, we already knew they certainly weren't hydrangeas).

She also gave MTV a shout-out after we tweeted our love to the superstar. "Thank you. We started together," she replied.

The diva tweeted love at her MDNA producers Martin ("Professor Polanski") Solveig and William ("Billy Bubbles") Orbit, continued her friendly affair with Ultra Music Festival pal Avicii and pleaded with Skrillex to join her on the road. "I worship you," the pop queen tweeted to the Grammy-winning DJ/producer. "Why won't you open up for one of my shows?"

She expressed the most gratitude to her fans repeatedly and even offered up a picture and video of herself alongside her tour dancers and crew surrounded by balloons, sipping champagne and about to dig in to some cake to celebrate MDNA's #1 debut.

Asked by @Billboard how it felt the first time she hit #1, Her Madgesty tweeted, "The same way that I feel now. Elated, grateful, like all my Christmases have come at once."

Exclusive look: 'Toddlers' star 'blows it' on stage

By Ree Hines

Isabella Barrett is no stranger to "Toddlers & Tiaras" viewers. The tyke is known for her rivalry with fellow pageant princess Paisley Dickey, her outspoken ways and her off-show performances -- including her headline-making, controversial take on LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It." But on Wednesday night's season premiere, "Toddlers" viewers will see a new, somewhat less confident side of Isabella.

In an exclusive sneak peek, the pageant hopeful can be seen hitting the stage with a glitzy entrance only to get lost in her routine moments later.

Now most people might see that momentary flub as no big deal, but most people aren't Isabella's mother.

"When she got on stage, she was lost," mom Susanna said. "I feel sad. Seeing her blow it is like blowing the World Series. It's just heartbreaking to me."

Then mom, overcome with emotion, had to step away from the camera.

Want to see more "Toddlers" drama? Check out classic clips from the show on TLC's website, and vote for your favorite. The winning spot will air after the season premiere.

The new season of "Toddlers & Tiaras" kicks off Wednesday, April 4 at 10 p.m. ET.

Will you tune in to see how Isabella (and of course, her mom) handles the stage stumble? Tell us on our Facebook page.

Rabbit Food: The Perfect Spring Salad | Fetch Magazine by Taigan

Take advantage of local farmers? markets and young spring greens in time to make a gorgeous Easter or Passover salad.

The salad recipe below is from one of our favorite recent cookbooks, Edible, A Celebration of Local Foods, but it?s only a template. This time of year you could toss in everything from real spring onions to blanched peas, baby asparagus tips, or haricots verts. In Edible, for example, there?s another arugula salad that pairs the peppery green with goat cheese, pecans, and the strawberries that are also in season.

Be creative, but keep it real?that?s the Edible mantra, and ours too. In a salad, after all, the quality of the ingredients matters more than in almost any other dish (which is why we recommend the Extra Virgin Olive Oil made for Blackberry Farm from Napa Valley Arbequina olives, or St . James Cheese Co.?s Georges Extra Virgin Olive Oil ?made in Kalamata, Greece).

Pictured above, greens look even more gorgeous when set off by the milky white finish of Astier de Villatte?s ceramic bowls and serving platters. Handmade in Paris, the pieces are surprisingly light, yet extremely durable, and the perfect warm weather tableware.

Arugula and Fennel Salad

(From Edible, A Celebration of Local Foods, by Tracey Ryder and Carol Topalian)

Serves 6

4 cups (about 5 ounces) lightly packed arugula

2 small fennel bulbs (about 1? pounds)

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (preferably Meyer), plus more, if needed

? teaspoon kosher salt, plus more, if needed

? pound Pecorino Romano or Parmigiano-Reggiano

? teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

In a large salad bowl, arrange the arugula. Cut the stalks off the fennel bulbs. Remove the fronds from the stalks and set aside. Cut each bulb in half lengthwise through the root. On a cutting board, place each half cut-side down, then cut in half lengthwise again. Cut each quarter into very thin slices crosswise and scatter the slices on top of the arugula. Cut the fennel stalks into thin slices and on the diagonal and scatter on top of the salad.

Sprinkle the oil, lemon juice, and salt over the vegetables and toss gently. The salad should taste light and slightly lemony. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Using a potato peeler or cheese slicer, cut ribbons of cheese and scatter them on top of the salad. Sprinkle with the pepper and top with the reserved fennel fronds. Serve immediately.

Trailer from Houston's new film, makes its debut

(AP) ? Viewers got a first glimpse of Whitney Houston's upcoming film Monday when NBC's "Today" show premiered a trailer for the much-awaited release, and a fuller clip debuted on Yahoo! Movies.

A remake of the 1976 original, "Sparkle" stars Houston as the mother of three girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction. The trailer displayed the daughters, including "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, in performance. Houston is prominent throughout, at one point singing the classic gospel song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."

She also tells one of her daughters: "I always knew you had the gift. It makes me feel like I did something right. Don't lose it."

Debra Martin Chase, who is a producer of the film, said she had mixed emotions with the trailer's release; the movie is scheduled for release Aug. 17.

"On the one hand, I'm so excited about the movie and we're really happy with how it turned out," she said in a phone interview Monday. "(But) just to have it said yet again that this is Whitney's last performance, it's hard. It's hard."

Houston is listed as the executive producer of the movie, which had already finished filming in Detroit when the superstar died Feb. 11 at 48 in Beverly Hills, Calif., on the eve of the Grammy Awards. An autopsy has shown she accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors.

There is no mention made of drugs in the trailer, and Chase declined to say whether it would be a focal part of the movie as it was in the original, saying she didn't want to talk specifically about the plotlines until closer to the movie's release date.

She also added that the movie was not altered to increase Houston's time in the film in the wake of her death.

"She is an integral, very much an integral part of the movie, but she's not one of the girls," she said. "She plays an important role, she's throughout the movie, but she's not one of the main characters."

Chase echoed other people involved with the movie who praised Houston's professionalism on the set. The movie was seen as a comeback vehicle for the star, whose career had waned over the years due to battles with drugs and alcohol.

"She was healthy, happy, on time every day, hung out on set when she wasn't working because she loved the cast," said Chase, who also declined to talk about the circumstances of Houston's death. "She had fun, her spirit buoyed everybody every day."

Houston had worked to get "Sparkle" to the screen for 12 years. It was her first movie since 1996's "The Preacher's Wife" and 20 years removed from her debut in the blockbuster movie "The Bodyguard," which was rereleased for one night last week.

"Whitney loved this movie very much. This was her idea," Chase said. "The great thing for me as her friend and her producing partner is that this movie will be an essential part of her legacy. ... It's the best performance of her life; she knew it at the time. She looked beautiful on camera and she enjoyed every minute making the movie."

Clashes in rival towns kill 22 in western Libya

(AP) ? Militias from rival towns in western Libya battled each other with tanks and artillery on Tuesday in fierce fighting that killed at least 22 people, local officials said.

The clashes erupted over the weekend between the Arab-majority town of Ragdalein and the Berber-dominated town of Zwara, some 110 kilometers (70 miles) west of the capital Tripoli. The violence is fueled by deep-rooted animosity between the neighbors, who took different sides in Libya's civil war that toppled Moammar Gadhafi last year.

The fighting is the latest in a series of local rivalries that threaten to divide Libya along tribal and regional lines. Libya's new leaders, who took power after Gadhafi's capture and killing in October, have struggled to stamp their authority on the country and rein in the myriad armed groups that helped defeat the dictator's forces but have refused to disarm.

In Tuesday's clashes, local Ragdalein official Rami Kaanan said 17 fighters and town residents were killed, including two women and one infant. The infant was killed when a rocket fell on his home, collapsing the ceiling, Kaanan said.

Zwara spokesman Adel Kashbour said five people from his side were killed and 49 wounded.

"The fighting continues. Two rockets landed in the city, killing two young men," Kashbour said of the most recent deaths.

The clashes first began Sunday after fighters from Ragdalein said they took 34 men from the Zwara brigade hostage to avenge what Ragdalein forces said were months of abuses, including the looting of property.

The hostages were released Monday after mediation, but the cease-fire quickly collapsed.

Prime Minister Abdurrahim el-Keib said he, along with his defense minister and chief of staff, met with elders from Zwara on Tuesday, and will later meet with tribal leaders from Ragdalein to discuss a cease-fire and reconciliation.

"We will send forces from the defense and interior ministries to resolve the issue, stop both sides, and be in the middle to quell the violence," el-Keib said. "I am very optimistic."

Libya's Interior Ministry dispatched police forces to the towns on Monday to quell the violence, but they were overpowered by the heavily-armed local militias.

"We have no ability to stop them except through negotiations. We think the Defense Ministry is better equipped for this job because we are equipped with light weapons," Interior Minister Fawzi Abdul-Al said in Tripoli.

Last week, Libya's leader Mustafa Abdul-Jalil acknowledged to The Associated Press that his government has failed to act quickly enough to restore stability.

His spokesman, Mohammed al-Hareizi, said Tuesday that security officials in top posts must do more.

"The government must improve its performance and speed up their efforts, or we will have to take extreme measures, especially with the defense and interior ministries, which have failed to deliver any of their plans," al-Hareizi said, warning that ministers could be replaced soon.

The conflict between the towns is one of many local rivalries stemming from Gadhafi's 40 years of divide-and-rule policies and Libya's eight-month civil war. Fighting in the remote desert oasis of Sabha between Arab tribes and an anti-Gadhafi African tribe killed around 150 people and left hundreds displaced last week.

Zwara, a town of 45,000 people, is less than 10 kilometers (six miles) from Ragdalein, which is twice as large.

Zwara residents were quick to join the uprising last year that led to Gadhafi's capture and killing in October. The Berber tribe there complained of discrimination under Gadhafi, including neglect and a ban from high-level posts.

Ragdalein, which is inhabited primarily by Arab tribes, was a stronghold for Gadhafi loyalists and heavily armed by his regime during the civil war.

Zwara residents, themselves well armed by rebels during the uprising, accuse Ragdalein's fighters of raping women, looting property and attacking the town last year for opposing Gadhafi's regime. They say they are now being blocked by Ragdalein's tribes from reaching their farms south of the city.

The progression of internal key serp autos , specifically in cars , is among the supreme triumphs of
modern technological innovation as being a new rising energy saving and atmosphere -friendly
automobile , thats exactly why the particular hybrid-electric autos ended up developed to supply ease
to each and every human.

In the entire process of producing the particular crossbreed electrical automobile , the most important
could be the energy saving along with the ecological security. When these days this specific include
the typical problems encountered by the modern society.

Having the particular hybrid-electric automobile started out the electrical automobile. nEvertheless ,
the principle problem with the electrical automobile is always that it's mainly relying on the particular
electric batteries. For that reason , provides minimal selection.

First coming from all , the particular crossbreed electrical automobile was allowed to be an electric
automobile using electric batteries regarding electrical power storage and it is equipped with an on-
board heat engine-powered generator. This means that this kind of crossbreed comes with a
extended selection.

The heat serp electrical power along with the juice are especially intended being an essential scheme
that will continually modulates the between the heat serp along with the juice devices. This will likely
additionally depend on the particular generating timetable.

Since the beginning of the application of cars , electrical automobiles are already already recognized
and conceptualized. However the energy train is way better in various factors , being an power
source , battery was unequal to the superior-energy content material , easiness due to the managing ,
and economical and copious amounts of items regarding generator energy.

Now, it's got almost been a hundred years since the electrical automobile may be generally talked
about , yet the latest innovations within the HEV technological innovation along with the increasing
worries for the atmosphere provides enhanced the particular push on an HEV and this has become a
realization nowadays.

We could consider the personalized means of transportation as being a very important connection
within the financial sequence regarding todays contemporary communities knowning that an
individual automobile appears to be the most popular selection.

Electric autos tend to be energy efficient than the contemporary autos when the electrical autos
functions at around forty six % regarding effectiveness , whilst any contemporary automobile
functions at about 18 % only.

There are reports that will typically ends that will electrical automobiles using electric batteries are
around ten to 30 percent extremely effective using power over a petrol automobiles , with regards to
the exact assumptions in the autos power utilization and power sequence effectiveness.

Certainly, the particular evaluations in the electrical autos along with the standard autos are
evaluations in between a very developed electrical power method that is virtually in the end of its
study and advancement , along with the progressive electrical power method in the beginning stages
in the advancement when essential advancement should be expected as the new technological
innovation advances.

Furthermore, some great benefits of electric powered methods regarding transportation expands
outside of the true view regarding economizing power. Electrical generation plants are able to use
replace fuels that aren't adjustable to easily transportable electrical power devices.

Electric autos include the definitive substitute energy autos as their electrical power can be obtained
from the source fuels utilized to develop energy. Helpful in reducing , the flexibleness in the energy on
it's own may offer essential beneficial and financial rewards specifically in regards to a variety of
power means.

The electrical automobile is actually a good technological innovation that can change someone's
means of transportation in to a far more enviroment type of asset. Via this specific innovation engine
performance handles be essential , powerful and financially helpful.

Globish ? a language of international business | Global Lingo

Globish

An article by Michael Skapinker in the Financial Times discusses how executives speak in a language of their own.

Jean-Paul Nerri?re, a Frenchman, observed years of English conversations as a long-time IBM executive.

A business language

He noticed that when two non-native English speakers spoke to one another, for example an Italian and a Belgian, they would both know their English proficiency wasn?t perfect, but they would communicate and manage.

However, when having to speak to an American or a British person, the Italian or Belgian wouldn?t fare so well. In these cases the native English speaker would speak too quickly and use unknown expressions which hindered the communication.

Nerri?re noted that although he had a heavy accent to his English, international clients actually understood him clearer than his Texan boss!

Decaffeinated English

These observations led Nerri?re to develop Globish, pronounced Globe-ish.

The language compromises 1,500 English words which he believes form a common ground that non-native English speakers can adopt in the context of international business. For this purpose, he believes that the vocabulary is perfectly sufficient enough to communicate.

Never tell jokes

The central ideology of Globish is as a tool of international communication which is not artificial but a language void of all figurative speech that English possess.

Globish speakers avoid all figurative language and never tell jokes, meaning there is no need to engage with Anglophone literature, culture or humour and it is easy to learn. Though Nerri?re actually likes to think of it as more of a tool than a language as it is not a ?vehicle of a culture? but a tool of communication.

Limit the influence of English

Nerri?re conceives of it as an international auxiliary language, like Esperanto and that Globish promises to limit the influence of English. He hopes that the language will facilitate the life of everyone and put everyone on a par. Some have even described it as the worldwide dialect of the third millennium.

With 1.5 billion speaking it as a second language; maybe Globish will one day be the language of globalisation that Nerri?re hopes it will?

As native English speakers will not understand a fluent Globish speaker; this represents an opportunity for even native English speakers to learn a new language and become bilingual.

We?ve borrowed some Globish from Robert McCrum?s article in the Guardian below:

Say it in English

I went to my niece and nephew?s party the other weekend. I played the piano and we were all singing along when a mouse ran out from behind the sofa with a piece of peach in its mouth.

Say it in Globish

At the party of my children?s brother the other day, I played an instrument with black and white keys and we all sang along. Then an animal chased by cats ran out from behind the seat with a piece of fruit in its mouth.

The concept of having a language for international business is creative as the tool allows people to communicate neutrally. Globish is resourceful as being only 1,500 words it is relatively accessible and easy to learn.

Where I do support the need to protect languages and hinder English?s ever increasing global dominance, I feel the time spent learning Globish would be more beneficial and have a positive impact if spent learning a real language, one that comes embedded within a culture, rather than learning a language which can be classed to some extent as another variant of Pidgin English.
