Union: US Airways seeks lower pay for new American Eagle pilots

Embraer

The pilots union says US Airways wants to have lower pay for new American Eagle pilots.

The union representing pilots with American Eagle has told its members that US Airways is proposing a reduced rate of pay for new pilots at the airline.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the airline won't seek additional cost concessions from existing pilots once it merges with Eagle?s parent company, Fort Worth-based AMR Corp. (OTC: AAMRQ), but that it does want to freeze a pilot?s pay if that pilot opts not to eventually move into an American Airlines position.

The Star-Telegram said that new pilots technically would be hired by American Airlines, but would work at American Eagle and would move to American Airlines like the other Eagle pilots in the seniority order.

Union leader Tony Gutierrez wrote to members that without the deal, US Airways said it woud place the aircraft at another carrier that had lower cost, the Star-Telegram said.
