Voices familiar with the matter have even suggested that the Softies could completely kill the desktop in the next Windows release in order to switch to a completely touch-optimized UI.
That?s not going to happen, Microsoft Chief Evangelist Steven Guggenheimer said according to TechCrunch, as the desktop is going to be available for many years from now.
Truth is, the Metro UI is here to stay, but that doesn?t necessarily mean that the desktop is going to be retired, Guggenheimer explained.
Even though he first said that ?over time, it?s likely to go away,? the Microsoft exec then came back and explained that the desktop UI ?will never go away completely.?
