The Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC presents "Cinematic Titanic Live: War of the Insects" at 8 p.m. on March 16th

The Carolina Theatre will present Cinematic Titanic Live: War of the Insects, starring the creators and original cast of ?Mystery Science Theater 3000,? at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 16th, in Fletcher Hall in downtown Durham, NC. Created by Joel Hodgson, ?Mystery Science Theater 3000? (a.k.a. MST3K) is a 1988-99 American sci-fi comedy series that has attracted a cult following.

According to the Cinematic Titanic website:

?Cinematic Titanic is the new feature-length movie riffing show from the creator and original cast of ?Mystery Science Theater 3000.? Like MST3K, the show was created by Joel Hodgson and features the same team that first brought the [1993] Peabody Award-winning cult-classic series to life: Trace Beaulieu (Crow, Dr. Forrester), J. Elvis Weinstein (Tom Servo, Dr. Erhardt), Frank Conniff (TV?s Frank), and Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester). Cinematic Titanic continues the tradition of riffing on ?the unfathomable,? ?the horribly great,? and the just plain ?cheesy? movies from the past.

?Founded in late 2007, Cinematic Titanic is an artist-funded, and artist-owned and operated venture. With 11 feature-length DVDs (available in our store: https://cinematictitanic.twinvision.com/products/) and an ever-growing schedule of live shows [http://www.cinematictitanic.com/livetour.php], the CT crew is reconnecting with MSTies around the world as well as bringing new fans to the comedy art form first introduced by this group 20 years ago on television.?

Also according to the Cinematic Titanic website will riff on the unrated (but probably PG-13 rated) 1968 Japanese horror/sci-fi film War of the Insects (a.k.a. Genocide), directed by Kazui Nihonmatsu :

?The bugs shall inherit the earth! Or so says Annabelle [played by Kathy Horan], the hottest, the sexiest, and by far the craziest psycho blonde chick to hit Japan since WWII. Deeply embittered about the whole man?s-inhumanity-to-man thing, she enacts a diabolical plot to unleash a swarm of mutant insects on the world that will destroy all living creatures, except creepy crawlers.

?Ensnared in all this madness is a philandering island-hopping bug collector [Yusuke Kawazu as Jozi] and his compliant and slightly pregnant wife [Shizumi Shindo as Yukari], a humorless doctor from the mainland [Keisuke Sonoib as Dr. Nagumo], and a United States airman named Charlie [Chico Roland], whose way of starting a conversation is to hysterically scream ?Genocide!? and then go off his rocker like the dedicated military professional he is.

?If you want to watch a story where everybody gets their nuclear holocaust on in the grand tradition of radioactive Japanese monster movies, this is the film for you!?
